This is a set of tiles known as “diamond point” in Portugal, alluding to their prismatic shape, painted in “tromp l’oeil”. Such azulejos were typical of the Mannerist aesthetic and were the result of various influences, especially Hispanic , Flemish and Italian. The shadowing of the cobalt blue “prisms” is interesting, indicating the incidence of light while reinforcing the impression of volume. The panel is framed with motifs classified as “wolf’s teeth”. The multicoloured patterns were introduced in the beginning of the 17th century.
