This large, Baroque, allegorical composition is one of Vouet's greatest works and is characteristic of his later style, featuring a range of bright, fresh colors. The dynamic, semi-circular composition shows six classical figures: in the foreground, a frightened old man who has collapsed on the floor (Time) is being tormented by a cherub who is pulling his wings, as well as by Love and Hope in the center, who are pulling his hair and wing. At the top of the painting, Fame calls for eternal public and social recognition from one of her horns.
