The Boston City Council requested an edition of one thousand copies of the account of the memorial service held in Boston for renowned abolitionist and activist Frederick Douglass (c.1817-1895). The eulogy was delivered by lawyer, judge, and civil rights activist Hon. Albion Tourgee and invitations were extended to elected officials, Douglass family members, "the survivors of the old Anti-Slavery Society," and other prominent black community members.
