A sailing ship on the sea in front of the very unusual mountain Torghatten, which has a big hole going through it. This print is part of "Atlas Historique et Pittoresque", published in 1842-1852 for "Voyages de la Commission Scientifique du Nord" about the French scientific expedition La Recherche (1838–1840).

Mayer participated in several Arctic expeditions and specialized in naval motifs like this one. The peculiar mountain, Torghatten, is on the island of Torget in Brønnøy in Nordland in Norway.
