The panel is the work of Corrado de Mochis from Cologne based on the cartoon by Giuseppe Arcimboldi. The subject depicts the Tower of Babel, described in great detail by the artist as if it were a stone yard of the time. In all likelihood, the was inserted in Milan Duomo's stained-glass window V21, dedicated to stories from the Old Testament. The panel has been part of the Duomo Museum's collection since the early 1950s.
