The Grand Magal Touba is a Muslim ceremony celebrated by Senegalese immigrants living in Argentina that combines a religious festivity with a project of urban consolidation of the homonymous sacred city.
In the middle of the 21st century, this could be an anachronism. According to unofficial records, 4500 Senegalese people are living in Argentina today. Latin America -and especially Argentina- has opened its borders receiving different migrants along its young history. In this simultaneous process of national configuration and occupation of its vast territory, Senegalese migration is the last chapter. Through documentary photos, I explore the creation of a new and more diverse Argentine DNA. Transgeographical habits and customs establish and transform with it. It is a cultural organism in a constant process of hybridation.
Within the context of Grand Magal Touba Argentine 2018, through the prayer, the mourides connect with their spiritual origin in Touba and temporarily show up in the public sphere of their city of destination.
