The Church of St Mary is first mentioned in the late 13th century. The tower was mainly built during the 15th century. Its top was taken down and rebuilt in 1832-3 when much of the church was rebuilt by George Smith. The church went out of use in 1888 and in 1927 all but the tower was demolished.
The churchyard contains the grave of Harriet Long and Jacob Walker. Long was a Virginian and Walker was her slave in America and servant in England.
