Tracy Austin became the youngest women’s singles champion in the history of the US Open in 1979, at the age of 16 years and 9 months. On her journey to victory, she beat No. 2 seed Martina Navratilova and No. 1 seed Chris Evert back-to-back. Evert lost to Austin in what would've been an unprecedented fifth US Open finals.
