The Treaty concerning German-French co-operation was signed, together with a Joint Declaration, on 22 January 1963 at the Élysée Palace, the official residence of the President of the French Republic. The Joint Declaration is about a fundamental reorganisation of the mutual relationship.

The Treaty stipulates regular consultations between the heads of state and the heads of government, between the Foreign Ministers as well as the high ranking officials of the Foreign Ministries and the embassies, furthermore between the Ministers of Defence and the Ministers for family and youth affairs. The aim is a coordinated policy with regard to all questions of mutual interest, especially the Europeen unification. It installs a close co-operation of both countries and the intention of France for reconciliation with Germany.
