The emblematic dance of the Caribbean region, Cumbia, is related to the process of mix racing between Spanish, African and Indigenous people of the region, providing a part of their culture towards this dance, the African heritage is the more predominant in the music and percussion rhythms of the music during this dance.

The dance garment consists of bolero dress with laces decorations from European influences, coming from the origin of the dance in the cabildos, in which female slave owners would dress their slave in the best clothing, with floral arrangements and jewelry.

Blouses in the garment come from specific Spanish influence and was retained after the independence, in the case of the garment in the museum’s collection, this one has a traditional neckline, long sleeves, a breast piece and some detailed ornated with sequins.
