Portuguese instrument built by Ernesto Frederico Haupt (1792-1871), one of the members of a family of woodwind instrument builders of German origin who settled in Lisbon shortly before the earthquake of 1755. The Haupts distinguished themselves by the quality of their instruments and the materials used. In its collections the Museu Nacional da Música has several Haupt instruments, including an English horn, considered unique.
