Oscar Oiwa is an internationally renowned artist based in New York who is active in Japan, Brazil, and other countries across the world. Oiwa is a 2nd generation of Japanese Brazilian born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil. This work, “Osanbashi”, is displayed on the second-floor entryway glass as part of the “Travelling around the World” series. It depicts Yokohama’s Osanbashi Pier in the early 20th century and the actual emigrant ships that departed from it. It aims to evoke in visitors, as they walk towards the entrance depicting the Osanbashi Pier of that era, the scenery of the time and the emotions of the Japanese migrants.
