Skokloster Castle

Skokloster Castle
Skoklosters, Sweden

All precious objects of silver, gold and gemstones used to be contained in a tower room on the first floor with a massive, locked iron door. The discrete and modern show cases from the 1930’s were intended as a museum exhibition.

The objects displayed by Baroness Wera von Essen came from all over the house and their history was equally varied. Some objects came into the collection as war booty, some as gifts to the first owner of Skokloster or tokens of grace, some bought as souvenirs by later generations.
Age wise they are equally heterogeneous; a small gold ring from 400 AD is the oldest object in the room and an oval miniature portrait depicting King Gustav V and Queen Victoria from 1908 is the youngest.
