red slip, has a short cylindrical neck,
strap handle joining the rim to the body,
spherical body and ring foot. Fine quality
red burnished ware was produced in the
Van region, which was the heartland
of the Urartian Kingdom, and widely
used, particularly in Urartian fortresses.
This ware has become known as Bianili
ceramics (see Merhav 1991, pp. 204, 212;
Belli 2003, pp. 138-143).
