The Virgin of Kazan leans his head slightly towards the Child, while Jesus, in a three quarter view, with physiognomy of an adult, is blessing with His right hand. According to the legend, this form of representation was brought from Constantinople to the city of Kazan (Russia) in the thirteenth century. With the invasion of the Tartars, the image disappeared, being discovered in the sixteenth century, after the release of Kazan by Ivan the Terrible. In the upper part of the scene the Trinity framed in a circle, the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist on each side, as well as angels and saints.
