Triangle, United States

The signed color lithograph of the French and American forces marching through the Arch de Triomphe in Paris captures the quickness of the marching and the battle-hardened soldiers, holding their nations’ colors high in triumph. The fighting is over. The figures in brown and grey give way to the lightness and sharp vivid washes of the colors of the flags.

Biography of artist:
Dominique Fourqueray was born in LeMans, France, in 1872 and studied at the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-arts in Paris. During World War I, he served as a civilian artist for the French Navy, traveling with them to the French Colonies of Africa and Asia. During his travels, he did watercolor sketches and mixed media works to document his experiences. These works ranged from Vietnamese fisherman to the coastlines and daily life of the people he met in the Middle East. He is best known for his paintings depicting French maritime history and the work he did during World War I.
