The extraordinary inflation in Germany in the 1920s caused a shortage in banknotes. The Central Bank of Germany simply could not produce enough money. Companies, agencies and communities issued their own paper currency to cover the shortage. This voucher was issued by the sub-division of the State Railway in Witten. The vouchers had poorer quality and simpler design than the emergency banknotes.
