In all of Stančić's paintings, there is a metamorphosis and a tendency to bring a sad, often tragic note to the depiction of childhood with something disturbing, at first glance invisible. This painting is mainly a materialization of melancholy and sleep, which is characterized by purity of expression, poetics and refined sensitivity. The themes of the paintings are the experience of childhood and early youth, and the world he depicts is always hides the other one. So in front of the Twilight picture we suddenly realize that the young man with the gas lamp has something in him that is unnerving to us; in the picture where everything seemed perfectly peaceful, the struggle lasts not only between the reality and the dream, but between good and evil. Faces and objects melt, they become unreal. Gentle sleep turns into a nightmare, muted eroticism into shamelessness.
