Underglaze is a method of decorating porcelain. Subglaze color is one of the main decorative means of ceramics. Pigments are used to paint various decorative patterns on the moulded and dried blanks (i.e. semi-finished products), and then cover them with transparent glaze or other light-colored glaze and fire. After firing, the patterns are covered by a transparent glaze. The surface is bright and soft, smooth without protruding, which looks clear and translucent. The appearance of underglaze technique should be traced back to the late Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms, but at that time it was simply decorated with herringbone pigments.
