Margarita Práxedes Muñoz (Lima, 1849 - Buenos Aires, 1909), Peruvian writer, philosopher and teacher, was the first woman to enroll as a student at the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos, initially enrolling in the Faculty of Letters (1882), and then in that of Sciences (1888). From the latter she graduated as the first female bachelor in Peru, with the thesis "Unity of matter or substantial identity of the organic and inorganic kingdoms", which begins with a dedication that reveals her intellectual link with Mercedes Cabello de Carbonera. With this thesis, Muñoz sought to contribute to scientific knowledge, considering the participation of women in these issues as an important progress for the country. Later, Muñoz continued her studies in Chile, and traveled to Argentina, where she founded a women's lodge together with Clorinda Matto de Turner. She wrote novels and articles for publications, and worked as a doctor.
