Berlin-based street artist Evol, real name Tore Rinkveld, employs a multi-layered stencil technique to transform electric boxes, street fixtures, and other familiar urban elements into miniature architectural models.

Seeing architecture as a mirror for society, Evol is interested in depicting the urban lives of ordinary people. The artist is particularly interested in the postwar socialist architecture of former East Germany, which he photographs on his walks through Berlin.

Working from accurate reference images, the artist presents these cities within cities with such meticulous detail that they can come across as actual buildings when looking at photographs of the work. The artist sees camouflage as a critical element of his practice and incorporates the weathered appearance and inherent flaws of the surfaces in the final piece.

Evol has taken part in the Nuart Festival twice, in 2010 and 2016. For the tenth anniversary in 2010, the theme was "The Landmark Series". To match the idea of scale, instead of painting a monumental mural, Evol took over an entire street. Pedersgata is among Stavanger's most well-known thoroughfares, connecting the city centre to eastern Stavanger, where you find the venue for Nuart's indoor section, Tou Scene. During the festival, Evol populated Pedersgata with numerous stencil works on electrical boxes along the pavement.
