Ratan Parimoo, (b. 1936) is a Kashmiri painter and art historian who moved to Baroda at the age of 15 to study painting. He was a founding member of the Baroda Group of artists and one of the youngest painters that responded to the new wave of modernist movements and abstract styles emerging in post-independence India. He has written and lectured extensively and has published more than 20 scholarly books on art and art history.

This painting in the Madhavan Nayar Foundation Collection is quite different from his usual figurative work but carries the same energy of strokes and brushwork creating blocks of colour. Ratan Parimoo is married to artist Naina Dalal whose work is also in the Madhavan Nayar Foundation Collection.
