Zhou Shaohua was born in 1929 in Rongcheng, Shandong Province and lives in Wuhan now. In 1950, he graduated from the Department of Fine Arts of Central Plains University, and successively served as president of Hubei Academy of Fine Arts and chairman of Hubei Provincial Literature Federation. He is currently a member of the Chinese National Academy of Painting. He was employed as visiting professor of China University of Science and Technology, Hubei Academy of Fine Arts, Southwest Normal University, Shandong Academy of Art, Central South University for Nationalities, Nagoya University of Art, Japan, and honorary professor of Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts and Shandong Academy of Arts and Crafts. He was awarded the Quyuan Prize for Literary and Artistic Creation. In 2008, he won the title of "Lifelong Achievement Artist" in Hubei Province and enjoyed the special allowance of the State Council. For many years, he has devoted himself to the exploration and research of Chinese painting theory and creative innovation, and is the pioneer and theoretical builder of the Chinese painting momentum school. His representative works include Song of Tea Mountain, Morning Light of Bohai Bay and Soul of the Yellow River. He published "River Source Finding Painting Collection", "Chou Shaohua Painting Selection", "Chou Shaohua Sixty Years of Art Exploration Painting Collection", "Chinese Modern Artists Painting Collection - Chou Shaohua" and so on.
