Jane Liu graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1976. She took further studies in etching at the St. Martin School of Art in London and lithography at the University of Illinois in Chicago between 1980 and 1982. Liu has taught in the Department of Fine Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the School of Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the Department of Visual Arts, Baptist University, and is currently teaching Printmaking at the Visual Arts Centre. She has won a number of awards, including the Printmaking Award at the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial Awards (1985), the Hong Kong Art Development Award (2000), the Lu Xun Prints Prize-Excellent Works Award (1980-1990) and Bronze Award of the 7th Exhibition of Printmaking- Intaglio, Silkscreen, Lithograph (2000). Jane Liu is deeply attracted by the visual language of print which provides the most expressive tools for her to convey her personal sentiments about life. At the same time, she enjoys the spontaneous and improvising quality of printmaking, that the final impact remains unknown until the last moment.
