Biography: Meera Mukherjee was born in 1923 in Calcutta, Bengal. She joined the art classes run by the Indian Society of Oriental Art and studied there till 1941. She received a Diploma in Painting, Graphics and Sculpture from Delhi Polytechnic. She worked under the noted Indoesain painter Effendi in Santiniketan. She extensively researched folk metal casting techniques as well as the casting techniques of classical Indian sculptures. She was awarded the Abanindranath Purashkar from Govt. of West Bengal in 1980. She died in 1998 in Kolkata.
