Lee Bul has painstakingly hand-threaded thousands of crystal beads onto chromium wire armatures. When the artist first turned to materials like synthetic resins, fabric, foam rubber, and sequins in the early 2000s, she felt free, she says, to experiment with organic and phantasmagorical forms.

This work embodies the simultaneously fantastic and natural aesthetic pursued by the artist. With long limbs extending upward and outward from the body of the sculpture, the form is alternately dense and sprawling. The shiny, delicate strands allude to genetic and atomic structures in a constant state of flux and motion.
