'Uprising' was originally made possible by Robin Howard Foundation Commission 2006, Arts Council England and Jerwood Changing Stages Choreolab at DanceXchange.
Choreographer and composer Hofesh Shechter sprang to fame with his widely appraised double bill 'Uprising/In your rooms', which opened in three of London’s most influential dance stages: The Place, The Southbank Centre and Sadler's Wells. For every performance the pieces were further developed and adjusted to exploit the possibilities of these respective stages. A unique, unprecedented collaboration. NDT offered a premiere with these two pieces in that for the first time 'Uprising/In your rooms' had been performed by a company other than Hofesh Shechter Company. It was Shechter’s longtime dream that NDT would take on this challenge and both pieces were accompanied by original scores composed by Shechter himself.
'Uprising', a piece for seven men, is a playful, passionate and irresistible investigation into masculinity. Set to a thumping, industrial soundtrack, the piece is a powerful and touching portrayal of confrontation and brotherhood.
