Can we accept the conditions and forms of ‘refuge’ as an integral part of our urban living? The studio positions the refuge as an integrated concept within the city, rather than as distinctive forms, and imagines its coexistence with our urban life. The outcome of the studio is directed with two conceptual frameworks: ‘clip-ons’ and ‘thickened wedges.’ The ‘clip-ons’, addressing the intimate scale, investigate ways to populate the refuge as networked nodes and are temporal and tactical in nature. The ‘thickened wedge’, aligned with the larger urban scale, imagines fictitious narratives occupying the socio-political topography of Seoul to address ‘depth’ and ‘density.’ The studio built a clip-space prototype and displayed a set of graphic narratives, where visitors can ‘clip in’ and ‘imagine’ the coexistence.
