Amis artist Iyo Kacaw has an eye for the beauty of driftwood and uses it as the main creative medium to express his concerns for the environment. Variations on the Ocean reflects on how the magnificent shoreline has been drastically altered by concrete tetrapods. White-crested waves used to crash against the stretching beach as if they were dancing to the sound of the surf. However, because of the appearance of tetrapods, coral reefs are damaged by sediment and fish habitats are destroyed. The rhythm of the ocean is therefore changed, and the harmony of waves is gone. Through his sculpture Iyo Kacaw encourages the viewers to ponder human impact on nature.
