Vase made at the Pasajes factory (Pasai Donibane., Gipuzkoa), founded in 1851 by the Baignol brothers. The brothers came from the great porcelain-making town of Limoges (France) and were pioneers in industrial porcelain production. The factory operated from 1852 to 1915. Following an initial phase during which they made pieces of exceptional quality, marketed throughout the Iberian Peninsula, the factory went through an irregular period, suffering problems with the quality of the products, the orientation of the business and the ownership.

This vase has a ring-shaped foot, ovoid body, truncate cone neck and open mouth with a broad curving edge. It has two vertical handles occupying much of the body, in the form of a branch with flowers and leaves. It is coated in transparent glaze. Inglaze-decorated by hand, the front of the body depicts a pastoral scene (the tracery is hand painted), and on the neck a border of geometric and stylised plant motifs, combining gold and other colours. The back has several painted gold lines, as does the foot, with delicate lines for the handles and rim. On the base, it has been die stamped on the fresh clay: “CF / 854”.
