The lithe, 6-foot-long skeleton of Velociraptor made this predator one of the most swift and agile carnivores roaming the sand dune fields of the ancient Gobi Desert. The hollow bones and relatively long legs of Velociraptor, allowed it to skim across the dunes in pursuit of both smaller and larger prey. With the sharp, sickle-shaped claws on its hands and feet, along with its steak-knife-like teeth, it wreaked havoc on the minute mammals, lizards, and even smaller dinosaurs, such as Protoceratops, that abounded in the dune fields.
