This vessel was found in Tomb T 1426 at Naqada. It comes from the Naqada I period, dating to approximately 3750-3500 BCE. The vessel has an inverted U-shaped sign carved onto it, which bears a strong resemblance to the later sign for "ten." However, it can't be definitively translated to mean "ten," so it cannot be considered true writing. Pot marks were a precursor to writing in Egypt.
