The enormous increase in utilitarian items since the dawn of the industrial age demands a material suitable for shaping. The development of specialized synthetic plastics at the beginning of the 20th century has best fulfilled the requirements of mass production until the present day. What if this invention had not been based on the use of crude oil, but on sustainable materials? A series of vessels with the title Botanica is the result of research done to answer this question. The materials are alternative synthetic compounds, developed under the sponsorship of the Plart Foundation of Italy, whose mission is the preservation of art and design objects. Natural raw materials, such as wood meal mixed with ox blood or copal resin (hardened wood resins) are the initial ingredients. This is the same experimental method used to synthesize casein in the late Middle Ages.
