Vic Tantau was a pioneer victorian surfboard manufacturer and one of the first in Australia to reproduce balsa Malibu style surfboards demonstrated by visiting American and Hawaiian surfers in 1956. To shape the balsa billets into a surfboard shape a number of different tools are used. As an indication of his innovation and self reliance Vic hand made this draw knife used to shave the timber down to the correct dimensions.
