Vic Tantau was a champion board paddler and one of the early pioneers of surfing in Victoria. Vic and his mate, Peter Troy, came up with the idea to start a surfing competition at the remote Victorian coastline break known as "Bells Beach". This annual competition is now the longest running surf competition in the world.

Pictured is Vic Tantau with his 16' hollow surfboard at Torquay Beach, Victoria in 1948.
