Sierra On-Line released the graphic adventure game Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Holy Grail in 1989. Conquests of Camelot transports players to Arthurian Britain where they assume the role of the legendary King Arthur. Beginning in Camelot, the player embarks on a quest to retrieve the Holy Grail and rescue three Knights of the Round Table, Lancelot, Gawain and Galahad. Extensive research into British history and Arthurian legend is incorporated into the dialogue and plot. Players travel across Britain, Gaza and Jerusalem, visiting historical and mythical landscapes along the way. Players encounter famous characters from Arthurian legend including the Black Knight, the Lady of the Lake, and the wizard Merlin. Conquests of Camelot features a mixture of puzzles, arcade sequences, and combat woven into traditional adventure gameplay. Throughout the game players collect points which are divided into three categories, strength, wisdom and soul. Players gain points by defeating enemies, solving puzzles, and doing good deeds. Conquests of Camelot features multiple endings based on decisions made throughout the game and only worthy characters achieve their ultimate goal. A second and final installment to the Conquests series, entitled Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood, was released in 1992.
