Originally released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005, Shadow of the Colossus is often cited as one of the best video games of all time and become extremely influential in the video game industry. The player takes control of Wander, a young man who has journeyed to a forbidden land to seek a way to revive a girl named Mono. The game has a unique play structure, with giant creatures known as colossi the only beings the player fights and interacts with. There are no other NPCs or enemies. In essence, the game is a series of boss fights with stretches of traveling by horse in a vast, empty land to find said bosses in between. Once the colossi are found, the player must figure out a specific spot to strike in order to defeat them, giving the game a puzzle solving aspect as well. Shadow of the Colossus is also considered by many to be a prime example of video games as art, with its combination of design, story, and gameplay. The game has won numerous awards including Game of the Year at the 2006 Game Developers Choice Awards.
