The Texas Instruments TI-99/4A was an early home computer developed in 1981. It originally sold for $525. It competed with the Commodore Vic-20 and offered more memory and better graphics, but its software library was much more limited and was priced higher. Texas Instruments reduced its prices within the year to remain competitive, but as the TI-99 cost more to produce than the Vic-20, Texas Instruments began losing money rapidly. Production of the computer halted in 1984. Despite its short run, the computer produced exceedingly popular games, such as TI Invaders and Parsec, and many gaming collectors still seek them out today.
