Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway is a first-person and third-person cover-based shooter set during World War II, and it became the third entry in the Brothers in Arms series. Developed by Gearbox Software and published by Ubisoft in 2008, Hell's Highway became the first game of the series to appear on Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3, and the first not to take place during D-Day.

Hell's Highway returns the player to the role of Staff Sergeant Matt Baker, the protagonist from the series' first game, Road to Hill 30.Unlike previous games, Hell's Highway focuses on the 101st Airborne Division's role in Operation Market Garden. This Allied operation aimed to end the war by Christmas, but due to bad intelligence and failure to complete objectives, casualties for Allied forces became too high for the plan to succeed. The game's title comes from the nickname for Highway 69, the main route of the Allied advance.

The core gameplay scheme of the Brothers in Arms series remains intact in Hell's Highway. The player controls two squads of soldiers and must effectively command them where to take cover, which enemy to suppress, and what path to take to flank an enemy. Two new squads, a bazooka team and a machine gun team, became options to use alongside the fire and assault teams. These new additions expanded the choices the player could make in both suppressing enemy positions and destroying them completely. Players must become adept at taking cover from enemy fire and suppressing enemy positions enough to outmaneuver their positioning. Utilizing the squads effectively became an even more daunting task in Hell's Highway, as enemies gained the power to destroy certain types of player covering, thus leaving the soldier exposed. Luckily, the reverse also proved true, allowing players to destroy enemy covering to leave them exposed as well. Another alteration appeared in the game's health system. If the player becomes exposed for too long, the screen begins turning red, and eventually Sergeant Baker dies. To prevent this, players must guide Baker to cover and away from enemy fire, which allows his health to regenerate. Hell's Highway also features a slow-motion camera that triggers every time the player gets a headshot or blows up an enemy position. These slow-motion shots display the mature and gruesome side of the war, a hallmark of the Brothers in Arms series.
