A lithographic print of the RHS gardens at Kensington from Andrew Murray, 'The book of the Royal Horticultural Society: 1862-1863' (1863). An Entomologist and author, Murray was also Assistant Secretary of the RHS and President of the Botanical Society of Edinburgh.
In 1861 the RHS opened a garden at South Kensington on land leased from the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 (now occupied by the Science Museum, Imperial College and the Royal College of Music). It closed in 1882.
