Lieutenant Colonel Henry Dixon arrived in India in 1842 as part of the British colonial forces. When he took up the new art of photography his subjects were the temples and historic monuments of South India. This photograph shows a hill station taken from the plateau above the town; its high vantage point elucidates the town’s layout and highlights its principal structures.
