Fruit of human labour, using very limited technology, the construction of kilometres of terraces gives this landscape a singular form, highlighted by slopes laden with vines, following the contorted, tight curves of the hills. Original to the country and practically incomparable anywhere else in the world, this titanic work of labour and ingenuity bears witness to the ability to domesticate hostile environments (SOEIRO Et. Al., 2002: 148).
