This painting was the principal panel of the altarpiece commissioned by Luis de Santa Fe in 1438 for the chapel founded by his father in the convent of San Francisco of Tarazona (Zaragoza), devoted to the Virgin. This panel includes the date of its completion, 1439, and a portrait of the donor with his lineage coat of arms.
