The traditional vocabulary of symbols consists of an elaborate iconography for the various forms of the goddess, trees, plants, animals, and architectural elements.

The symbols include the 64 joginis forms of the mother goddess; the bua priest/ shaman; Ganpati, the elephant headed god; Surya dev, the Sun God; Krishna, the avatar of Vishnu as a cowherd; from the holy text of the Ramayana are Lord Ram, his brother Laxman, and the monkey god Hanuman; Shravan; various dancing figures; birds and animals such as the popat or parrot, mor or peacock, and the hiran or deer; a variety of flowers. garlands and other icons.
