Rafael Lozano Bartolozzi (1943-2009). It is not accurate to speak of composition in the majority of his works, but of syntactic association (or disassociation) based on the juxtaposition of different elements in a two-dimensional concept of the canvas, which is divided into bordered forms and zones. Bartolozzi works slowly and carefully on each work, yet manages to ensure that only freshness and power prevail in the end result. The son of painters and grandson of the famous artist and writer Salvador Bartolozzi, he studied at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Art in Barcelona and at the School of Mural Painting in Sant Cugat del Vallés. He belongs to the 60s generation, made up of artists who favoured the reclaiming of figurative painting and Pop Art, a movement he is considered a key part of in Spain. He also performed sculpture, including town planning works and monuments. He was also a pioneer of happenings in Catalonia and throughout his career he carried out all kinds of experiments and artistic practices that often included conceptual ones.
