Lace frill

Cité de la dentelle et de la mode

Cité de la dentelle et de la mode
Calais, France

The decoration of this lace is representative of the end of the 18th and the first half of the 19th century: the main motifs are located in the lower part of the frill while a smattering of smaller elements animates the upper part. Here the main theme is inspired by the so-called "cashmere" motifs, referring to the shawls of the same name, very in vogue during the Restoration.
