Wood sump moor landscape in the Carboniferous period.

The classroom picture shows the enormous wood sump moor landscapes which originated in the Carboniferous era. After the trees died, they fell over and sank into the moor. This meant that they were subject to the exclusion of air. The current coal beds were ultimately created over 300 million years through the process of coalification.
