Walking suit consisting of a jacket and long skirt. The jacket is made of blue wool taffeta. It is short and very fitted with a turnover collar and lapels decorated with embroidered plant motifs in blue. It is fastened at the front with four white mother-of-pearl buttons, which stand out against the blue of the fabric. The skirt is long with a small tail, and is decorated with two bands on the front which replicate the embroidery on the jacket.

This type of walking suit, made up of a jacket and skirt, appeared in Europe around 1880, and the earliest designs are attributed to the English designer, Redfern. They quickly became popular as they were much more comfortable and practical than older suits and dresses. They were better suited to the everyday life of women at the time, but without losing the elegance and style of female fashion of that era.
