In this watercolour by John Anderson, from 1882, the most
prominent feature is the derelict timbered building to the right. Beyond he
shows fertile meadows and countryside, with human figures peacefully taking
their ease. Anderson became Head Master
of Coventry School of Art in 1863. His earlier work was influenced by the
Pre-Raphaelites and he produced several paintings of Warwickshire.
