Washboard

Washboard is a laundry tool used to scrub dirty clothes to remove dirt. Commonly-used laundry tools included a laundry basin, a washboard, and a laundry stick. Method of using a washboard to clean laundry is a relatively recent invention. A washboard is a flat wooden board cut into a rectangular shape, and in order to better wash off the dirt, arched furrows are carved to create a rough surface. There is a hole at one end for the washboard to be hung on a wall. The washboard shown here has been mass-produced in a factory using machinery.
